Favorite Movie
Jeremy: Love Actually was my favorite. This is such a feel good movie and has TONS of great actors and actresses.
Courtney: Definitely Love Actually. It is so light and fun and Colin is at his most charming in this movie.
Andrea: My favorite was Love Actually, too. It’s such a great movie, has great storylines and wonderful actors and actresses!
Least Favorite Movie
Courtney: The English Patient. Oh, God, I really hated this movie. It was so slow, so boring, and the characters were so under-developed. I think the role that Colin played had a lot of potential but the writer/director/producer/whoever didn’t explore it enough.
Andrea: I guess I’d say The English Patient. I actually kind of liked the movie, but Colin’s role was so small that it was really hard to review him in it.
Jeremy: The English Patient. I agree with Andrea – Colin should have had a bigger part in the movie.
Most Surprising/Unexpected Movie
Jeremy: A Single Man. It was most surprising because I didn’t know what it was about and even if I did I think Colin would have still surprised me. I think he nailed this role and I will probably watch it again.
Andrea: A Single Man was most surprising for me, too. I, like Jeremy, didn’t know anything about the movie going in, and it was a pleasant surprise. He did such a wonderful job and the movie was great!
Courtney: I was most surprised by The King’s Speech. I LOVED this movie! I mean I figured going into it that I would like it okay, but I really didn’t know much about it. I had no idea I was going to be so entertained by it. I thought it mixed the drama and the humor perfectly. And even though Colin plays a serious quick-tempered King in this one, I still loved him in the role.
Movie We Still Want to Watch
Courtney: The 1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. I really wish we had had enough time to get to watch this as a group and review it, but there just aren’t enough hours in the day. I very intrigued by what all a 6 part mini series can do with a Jane Austen book. Especially since I haven’t seen ANY of the miniseries that have been done based off any of her work. But I also know that Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy had all of England in an uproar so I’d really like to see what all the fuss is about!
Andrea: Pride and Prejudice for me, too. Simply because of all the hype about this version, and the hype about Colin’s portrayal of Darcy.
Jeremy: I still want to see Girl with a Pearl Earring, mainly because I have a crush on Scarlett Johansson.
Final Thoughts
Andrea: I think Colin is great, and I like him a lot more now that I’ve seen some more of his films.
Jeremy: At first, I wasn’t so sure about reviewing Colin, but he is growing on me. I think he is a great actor and definitely deserved the Best Actor Award this year. I think he can play almost any role, so I look forward to seeing him in something in the future.
Courtney: I think Colin Firth is a fantastic actor. He brings charm and sincerity to each part he plays. He has one of those faces that always makes him look serious, even when he doesn’t mean to be. And even though sometimes that may mean he has to work a little bit harder to really convey his carefree or jovial side, it also means, I think, that people trust him immediately. We believe everything that he says he is feeling or thinking with out ever really doubting him. Or at least I do.
Our overall rating for Colin? A big 5/5. There were a few times when he received a 4/5 from one or more of us, but he averaged a 5/5. Next month we’ll be reviewing Adam Sandler. Our first review, for Happy Gilmore, will be posted on June 1st. Be sure to check it out!

Excellent job with the reviews of Colin Firth’s movies. Now, on to the other extreme… Adam Sandler!
