We’ve watched and reviewed our five movies for Reese Witherspoon:  The Man in the Moon, Cruel Intentions, Election, Walk the Line and Water for Elephants. Now we’ve each picked our favorite movie, least favorite movie, and most surprising out of the five. We’ve also each decided on a movie starring Reese that we want to watch, but wasn’t included in our five, and share our final thoughts.

Favorite Movie

Andrea: I’d have to say Election, because I really like the humor in this movie. I don’t love everything about the movie (like the cheating) but it definitely was my favorite of the five we watched.

Courtney: My favorite was Walk The Line. I think I love this movie because it is just so close to being a musical, and you know how much I LOVE musicals! But I also love this part for Reese because it was so different from what she had done before and she was so committed to the part.

Jeremy: I’m with Andrea on this one. My favorite was Election, out of the ones we reviewed. I like comedy movies and this movie made me laugh a lot. I also think Reese was perfect for this role and yes, Matthew Broderick was creepy in this movie.

Least Favorite Movie

Jeremy: Walk the Line was my least favorite. I didn’t like it the first time and it really wasn’t much better the 2nd time. I think Reese did good, I just didn’t like the movie that much.

Courtney: I’m going to have to go with Election for this one. Not because of Reese though. Just because Matthew Broderick really creeps me out in this movie and I don’t like all the cheating. Honestly, I didn’t really hate any of the films, but Election is probably the only one I wouldn’t seek out to watch again. Water For Elephants is a close second due to the animal abuse.

Andrea: Cruel Intentions. I mean, all the actors did a great job, especially Ryan Phillippe, but, ugh. No, just no. Horrible movie. This movie was made for fourteen-year-old boys. Not my kind of movie. They tried to redeem it in the end, but they fell kind of short.

Most Surprising/Unexpected Movie

Courtney: Well, the only one I hadn’t already seen was Water For Elephants. I guess I’ll say that one, only because I was surprised I didn’t hate it.

Jeremy: I’m going to go with Water for Elephants, too, because I really had no idea what the movie was about. I didn’t think the performance was spectacular but I did enjoy the movie and I didn’t think I would.

Andrea: Well, I had already seen The Man in the Moon and Election, and I had read the book of Water for Elephants, so that leaves me with Walk the Line or Cruel Intentions to be surprised by. I guess I was surprised by how much I hated Cruel Intentions!

Movie We Still Want to See

Andrea: I’ve actually seen a lot of Reese’s movies, so the only ones that I haven’t really seen that I still want to see are The Importance of Being Earnest and Vanity Fair.

Courtney: I really want to see the movie How Do You Know! I think it sounds like a really interesting concept and it looks really cute and funny. But mostly it just seems like it has really clever writing. And it doesn’t hurt that I absolutely adore Paul Rudd! I’ve had it in my Netflix queue forever…I wonder what spot it is at…34! I’m never going to make it to that movie!

Jeremy: This Means War looks really good. It’s got some action and looks interesting. Also, it would be a different role to see Reese in.

Final Thoughts

Courtney: I think Reese is really talented and very smart. She has made some great choices and I love that she fully commits to each role she signs on for. And as we’ve already mentioned in past posts, she has had a steady career since she was 15 and it doesn’t look like that is going to change anytime soon. I’ll give her a 5 overall for sure!

Andrea: I think Reese is a good actress, and she has a lot of talent. She does well in both dramatic and comedic roles, but I prefer her in really distinct characters, like Tracy Flick in Election. Some of the movies she has done have not been my kind of movies at all, and because of that, plus the fact that she didn’t wow me in all of the movies we we watched, I’d have to give her a 4/5 overall.

Jeremy: I’ll always remember Reese as the girl from Legally Blonde but I think she is a good actress and well deserving of her awards. I also think she could probably do any type of role but does really good when she plays a Southern gal. I give Reese a 4 out of 5 overall.

Our final, overall rating for Reese Witherspoon?  A respectable 4/5!  Next month we’ll be reviewing movies starring Tim Robbins.  Our first review, for Bull Durham, will be posted on December 1st.  Be sure to check it out!
